I believe that the hours of darkness hold the key to unlocking your skin’s true potential. As the sun sets and the world quiets down, it’s the perfect time to indulge in a skincare routine that not only nourishes your skin but also restores your mind and body. The night offers a serene and peaceful environment to focus on ourselves. So, uncover the beauty that lies within as I share my nighttime skincare routine with you and the order that I use various products!
Makeup remover:
It is so important to remove your makeup on the days that you wear it! Whether you have on a full face or just mascara, make sure that you take it off. There are plenty of makeup removers on the market, but I like to keep my routine as simple as possible and use everyday oils that you probably already have in your home. My favorite makeup remover is olive oil. It is a great oil for hair, skin and nail health and is highly used in Italian culture. I also know that a lot of people like to use coconut oil as well, but it is very comedogenic and is known to clog pores. I also love the Mary Kay makeup remover, but for me personally olive oil is more accessible and multi-purposeful.
Cleanser:
Most think that removing your makeup is cleansing, but it is so important to keep these steps separate. Makeup remover only breaks down your makeup, making it easy to remove off of your face, but a cleanser will actually cleanse your skin of the day and any remnants of makeup. Everyone’s skin is different so I will always recommend that you play around with products and see what works for you. I personally love gel cleansers. I feel like a little bit goes a long way, I enjoy the consistency, and they are great for hyperpigmentation and acne prone skin which I have. A few of my favorite brands for cleansers (and skincare in general) are Andalou Naturals, MaryKay, Skin Labs, and Neutrogena.
Toner:
Toning is a crucial skincare step that most people skip, and once you start to implement it you will never go back! Toning for the skin is what priming is for your makeup. Toning is important because it helps to balance the pH in your skin and it promotes an even skin tone over time. So if you suffer from hyperpigmentation or dark marks or dark circles and if you’re not toning you’ll want to start as soon as possible. A few of my favorite toners are Seabreeze, the Up and Up toner by Target, and Witch Hazel. I always apply my toner with a cotton round after cleansing.

Masks:
Masks are what I like to consider as supplementary skin care. They are not necessary for everyday use but they are a nice addition to self-care. I like to use a mask once a week and I’m open to trying a variety of different ones. I personally like to shave/wax, exfoliate, and do a mask all on the same night of the week and I call this my supplementary skin care and self-care night. This is the night that I do all of my beauty treatments that are not necessary for survival but just make me feel more beautiful and give special attention to any skincare concerns and issues that I may be having at the time. So whether you are using a detox mask, a brightening mask, or moisturizing mask, don’t overdo it and just create a weekly routine for masking.
Serums/patches, etc:
Serums are always in and out of my skincare routine and I personally think that they are the least important and least necessary step. I like to save serums for special occasions or events that I have coming up and I will particularly implement them a few weeks leading up to a pageant or an appearance that I may have. I also used a serum a few weeks leading up to my wedding. Like masks, serums are good boosters to add to your skincare routine. They assist with radiance, moisture, firmness, among many other things and are usually in liquid form. They are a perfect pick me up and always feel luxurious on the skin.
Moisturizer:
For me, moisturizer is a must! No matter your skin type, everyone needs to moisturize because it promotes elasticity/plumpness of the skin and slows the signs of aging. A skincare rule for me is to never go to bed ashy and never go to bed without moisturizing. In addition to it being a makeup remover, olive oil is also a great moisturizer for body and face, and a little goes a long way. I also love to use moisturizers from Andalou Naturals, MaryKay, and Dead Sea Minerals.
Incorporating a night time skincare routine into your daily life can work wonders for your skin. With consistent nighttime skincare, you’ll wake up to a refreshed and glowing complexion every morning. So, embrace the power of night time skincare and let your skin shine bright like the stars!
