Sharisse is my Scotty sister! Since meeting her at Agnes Scott college, she has always been full of life, kind, and ambitious. Sharisss Victor-Newman is a wife, mother, and physician based in New York City. A proud Brooklynite, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Africana Studies from Agnes Scott College, followed by her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. She is currently a final-year resident physician, and spends her work days rotating between the clinics and the operating room, where she specializes in foot and ankle surgery. Sharisse takes great pride in her Guyanese heritage, and loves to immerse herself in her culture— in her spare time she “plays Mas” in national and international carnivals, and is a self-proclaimed foodie.
Prior to wifehood, she actively participated in pageantry and modeling, as well as scientific research and volunteer work. Juggling the titles of doctor, wife, and mother have been challenging, but have taught Sharisse the importance of prioritizing the meaningful things in life. Prior to becoming a wife and starting a family, she believed that balancing a demanding career and a family would be impossible, but instead, this new chapter has inspired her to remain committed to her craft to make her family proud. She credits her resilience to the support of her husband, Earl, and children, Luna and Logan.
Sharisse’s advice to her fellow wives would be to set time aside for yourself and your family. “Your job would replace you if they had to, but you are irreplaceable to your family. Remaining emotionally and mentally available for them AND yourself is of the utmost importance.” Being able to come home to the support of her best friend and the family they’ve created brings Sharisse a sense of peace that she’d never experienced before, and she is grateful for the opportunity to nurture a new generation.
