Pageants are an extracurricular activity that are just as expensive as you allow them to be. But there comes a point where the DIY preparation is no longer enough and you simply need to spend more money on better resources, like a pageant village. You know the saying “It takes a village to raise a child”? Well, it takes a village to produce a queen. Your pageant village is a community of people that you pay to help you be your very best self as a woman, as a contestant, and as a titleholder. Your coaches, your seamstress, your fitness trainer etc. are just a few of the people in your pageant village. Today I’m going to give you some milestones that will let you know that you are ready to graduate from DIY pageant preparation, and make the investments to take you to the next level in your pageant journey.
Invest after you’re invested
Before you spend money on coaches or custom wardrobe, make sure that pageantry is something that you’re in for the long run. Make sure that you are emotionally and developmentally invested in this world before you start financially investing. It is so easy to get caught up in the glitz and glam of pageantry and the price tag that comes with it. I would hate for you to make such big financial investments only to realize 3 to 6 months later that you are no longer interested. Competing in pageants is a long game without instant gratification, and how you spend your money should be reflective of that.
Financially able
A key component to upgrading your investment is to make sure that you are financially able to do so. Competing at a level you can afford is something that a lot of girls overlook and ignore. Girlfriend, do not go into debt for a pageant, for a gown, for a coach etc. Be patient, play the long game, and save your money in a sinking fund until the purchase proves unburdensome. Payment plans are okay, as long as your income is steady and reliable, and you don’t have multiple payment plans going on at one time.

When DIY is no longer enough
When you have exhausted free resources from coaches, you’ve watched every pageant video on YouTube, and you’ve gathered all insight from friends and family for free, this is a good indicator that it’s time for you to cough up more coins. If you’ve come to a place in your pageant journey where all of the constructive criticism, feedback, and improvement areas are sounding the same but you’re not sure how to go about improving them, it is time for you to upgrade your investment. There’s only so much improvement that you can make on your own, and at some point you will need a professional eye on your performance. After you have done all that you can do it is now time to see what someone else can do for you.
When winning is the only opinion
It is a good time to upgrade your pageant investment when you know that you want to win. Girls compete for many different reasons, but if you want to win you are going to need a village behind you and that village requires investment. No state, national, or international titleholder wins by accident or luck. They win with strategy and insight in their corner from people who are experts in the field. If you have your dream title as your end goal and you know that winning is the only option for you, it is time to start investing more in your end goal.
